Golden times for the Romanian sports Momente de aur pentru sportul romanesc

In June 2022, the name David Popovici reached me for the first time, on the occasion of the Fina World Championship in Budapest. This is a new successful situation, in recent years, with a Romanian athlete obtaining medals in swimming. My joy was immense and it is still supported by the beautiful results of the same swimmer at the European Aquatics 2022 in Rome. At the young age of 17, becoming a world champion seems like an impossible dream to achieve. At this age, many of us don’t even know what path we will follow in life, we are in school and dreaming of true love. What I can conclude is that this David has definitely found his way and maybe water is his true love. But his destiny is just beginning and I am sure that David Popovici’s talent, motivation, education and youth will be clear assets for future medals or personal successes. David is already an inspiration for us and for many other Romanians. Well done David !!

Now it’s Simona’s turn. I discovered Simona in 2014, when I was on vacation in Bulgaria. I was also with a tennis racket in my luggage, but I still didn’t know anything about this wonderful and very serious girl, completely in love with tennis. She had her first big victory at the international level in June 2014 and then, year after year, various other victories followed, smaller or bigger, but each one I believe – with its unique importance and unrepeatable memories for Simona Halep herself. I was very happy when Simona won the Toronto Tennis Championship earlier, this year. I like her a lot, not only as an athlete but also as a person. Unfortunately, now she has some problems due to this suspension, but I am sure that Simona Halep did not do anything intentionally, already having a world-renowned ethical character. This medicine can cause “stroke or sudden death from myocardial infarction”, confirmed by several medical specialists; she would have never risked her health this way. I hope that her talent and character will continue to support her, in order to prove her innocence; Simona is a talented Romanian tennis player and she’s always proving her fair-play.

Another wonderful surprise is the Romanian champion, Ionela Cozmiuc, an amazing winner in the Czech Women’s Rowing Championship 2022. The rower Ionela Livia Cozmiuc won the gold medal in the singles event, the lightweight category this year in the Czech Republic. Ionela has also won other medals in the recent years and is currently preparing for future competitions. This year’s successes have confirmed the talent and discipline with which the Romanian rower has been always preparing, for sport events in Romania and beyond the borders. Ionela Livia will surely bring new medals and I hope that she will also have personal reasons for joy.

In iunie 2022, numele David Popovici a devenit cunoscut, cu ocazia Campionatului Fina World Championship de la Budapesta. Bravo David!!

Acum vine randul Simonei. Pe Simona am descoperit-o in anul 2014, cand eram in vacanta in Bulgaria.

Ionela a mai obtinut si alte medalii iar in curand va pleca in cantonament, in Italia. Succesele din acest an au confirmat talentul si disciplina cu care canotoarea s-a pregatit in ultimii ani, in Romania si nu numai. Cu siguranta Ionela Livia va aduce noi medalii si, sper ca va avea si bucurii in plan personal.

Simona Halep victorious in Prague Simona Halep campioana la Open-ul Praga 2020

Simona in Austr

After a few months break, Simona returns to the field; moreover, her return is already a beautiful victory at the  Prague Open 2020 tournament, on Sunday, 16th August. After an interesting meeting during the championship with her co-national, Irina Begu, Simona continued her way to the final.

In the final match she met the player Elise Mertens with whom he played two sets; after a more hesitant start, Simona recovered and began to impose herself easily, earning points and approaching a possible victory for which she then fought until victory. Although occupying the 23rd place in the world, the player temporarily put her in trouble, but the Romanian managed to find solutions that would put her in an advantage, casting in two sets (6-2, 7-5).

For Simona, this title with no. 21 is second in a row, after the winter victory in Dubai; it is also the first slag championship won after the one at Roland Garros in 2018.

For this success, our player receives 280 points in the WTA rankings and adds a new star in the album of her tennis victories. We hope to remain as healthy as before and to represent Romania always strong and talented, as before.

Dupa o intalnire in cadrul campionatului interesanta cu Irina Begu, Simona si-a continuat drumul spre finala.

Desi ocupand locul 23 mondial, jucatoarea i-a pus temporar probleme insa romanca a reusit sa gaseasca solutii care sa o puna in avantaj, castingand in doua seturi (6-2, 7-5).

Pentru aceasta reusita, jucatoarea noastra primeste 280 de puncte in clasamentul WTA si adauga o noua stea in albumul victoriilor ei in tenis.

Simona brings the Wimbledon trophy home!

Simo wins the Wi

Woow!! How much joy this tennis match brought to my heart…and even now, some time after, I still smile like a fool here and there remembering bits of that day, the 13th July 2019.
Princely public Wi 2019
After an amazing 2018, with a great peak in June when Simona Halep won the Roland Garros title for the first time nobody was expecting still something so wonderful  to come also this year. More than that, the statistics of her tennis matches with Serena Williams was not in her advantage. And still, the magic still came for her and for all of us who support her along the year.
Simo & Serena prices Wi 2019
I was hoping actually for this result though I had a few fears…In a perfect shape, our player needed almost one hour to finish the match and win the Wimbledon trophy, with the score 6-2, 6-2.  It was difficult for Serena Williams keep up with our Romanian player’s amazing rhythm.
Simo in balc
After an extraordinary 2018 when she got her first big title, winning the Roland Garros title in June, 2019 has brought Simona, after many hours of training and work, the 2nd big title, at Wimbledon, in the princely shade of the Duchess of Cambridge’s clapping.
Simo 1 trophy
Thank you again Simona for this joy, for this beautiful match and for the first Wimbledon trophy ever won by a Romanian player !
For the tennis crazy fans, you can find here much more info, photos and nice stories of the 2019 edition:

Tennis beauty and success in Fedcup for the Romanian girls!

And they did it again!!! Our amazing tennis girls under the winning charm of Simona Halep have managed to defeat a strong Czech tennis team, making a whole country and all the Romanians everywhere extra-happy! I could not even see the matches as nobody seems interested in offering the tennis fans such matches (no tv channel, no online website…) which made me feel dissapointed whereas for football everyone is broadcasting every stupid match everywhere….  Even in these hard conditions 🙂 my heart kept on beating for these girls and their whole effort & work have given them this amazing result! Let’s not forget that the Czech Republic has been the winner of the past six editions of the Fed Cup.

Simona was in her usual good shape and together with the other players they re-created a golden Romanian team; I thus congratulate all of them Monica N, Irina-Camelia B, Mihaela B & the lady-bug of the team, Simona H for this excellent result and for their entire work during this Fed Cup winter matches, capitalised on the 10th of February with the final result of their encounter with the Czech tennis team.

The team spirit of the girls and a bit of Romanian magic was the plus they needed against a difficult team; I am proud of them and also try to keep tennis in my life and play as often as I have the chance. Well done, girls and keep up this energy for the whole year!

Simona Halep conquers Roland Garros!

It has finally happened! A Romanian player has won the Roland Garros tennis tournament and….it had to be Simona, of course! She deserves these magic moments, she has worked a lot for this and we, Romanians, are also celebrating this amazing victory with her, today and this whole year while she has this title.

After defeating A. Kerber and G Muguruza in the previous matches, showing a great condition, Simona has met today a new entry in the top ladies of the world tennis – Sloane Stephens. Never underestimating her opponents, she prepared and had a lot of work to manage finally to get and enjoy the most beautiful victory of her life, the dream she has had for 12 years. The moment was magical and all the Romanians in Paris and everywhere prayed for her to win and supported her all along the match.

After 40 years, as in 1978 another Romanian player Virginia Ruzici won the same cup, the Roland Garros cup for ladies comes back to Romania, to Constanta. I would say that the French reporters on tv were right – Constanta has moved to Paris! And, yes, the Roland Garros trophy has moved to Romania, a very happy Romania!

THANK YOU FOR THIS AMAZING VICTORY, SIMONA!

Bucuria ei este si bucuria mea, oriunde m-as afla in aceasta lume.

Earth Day, William Shakespeare, Simona Halep

la castelul Ansembourg

As 22nd of April is Earth Day, I try every year to do something for the Earth on this day. This year,  I have planted a raspberry bush and tried to help for some good ecological causes.

Here is an article in Romanian for everyone from home who is interested in knowing more plastic packages and doing something to reduce it, received from ‘Zero waste Romania’:

https://www.prwave.ro/studiu-ambalajele-din-plastic-nu-previn-risipa-alimentara/

Also, the bees everywhere in Europe and in the world need our help; you can read another article in French and decide if you can also help with a few dollars these people: ‘Le 27 avril, les gouvernements de l’UE se prononceront sur l’interdiction d’un certain nombre de pesticides néonicotinoïdes et c’est l’avenir des abeilles qui est en jeu. You can donate something here:

For those interested in the current situation concerning the bees populations in Europe, you can also read this in:

Also, WWF Australia is trying to teach and get support from people all over the world, in order to support the koalas, well-known species currently endangered; if you have some time to spare, read and help in any way, please have a look at their stories here:
                                      http://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/save-koalas

Last but not least, little things help: turn off the lights/computers/smartphones/cooker/air conditioned when you do not need them, plant some colourful flowers in your balcony/garden to help the bees, reuse the water in which you wash fruits/veggies for watering plants, recycle plastics/papers/glass/batteries/light bulbs and eat less meat; just remember that we are not the masters of everything and every being on Earth so we should not be selfish. This planet is here for all and we should not take everything around for granted.

Another interesting thing, with no connection with those written above – 23rd April is the birthday of a famous English playwright, William Shakespeare that stressed all of us in school :):) Still, I think he was a nice and smart guy… and very romantic; here is something he said, to help you look for what is essential and important in relationships of any kind today so that you will only have happy and positive experiences:
‘What’s in a name? / that which we call a rose,
By any other name/ would smell as sweet.’      And I wrote this from memory 😉

And as I felt happy about the news, something from tennis again, congratulations to Simona Halep and our girls who were amazingly wonder women in the Fed Cup matches during  last week-end. I hope that after their victory, they found a bit of time to relax and recuperate their energies. Here is what Simona said after the victory:

In urma meciului castigat in semifinale cu Jelena Ostrapenko (Letonia), Simona a ajuns nr.1 mondial, o performanta unica pentru tenisul romanesc.

BRAVO SIMONA!

Again great news for the Romanian tennis: Simona Halep has become on the 7th October the no. 1 tennis player in the world, due to her results in the China Open Tennis tournament in Beijing.

Also,  after I have waited for so long, I could finally enjoy the moment when she managed to defeat Maria Sharapova (Russia), for the first time in her career, with a beautiful victory and the score 6-2, 6-2, at the same tournament.

After the match she won in the semifinals against Jelena Ostapenko (Latvia), Simona becomes the world no. 1, a unique performance for the Romanian tennis. Here is what she said after this match: ‘No words can describe what I feel now. It is amazing that I have become the world no. 1. I thank all my fans for their support. I have managed to play some incredible matches. Thank you, China!’

Also, out of all the congratulating messages she has received, she has confessed that the nicest message is the one received from another famous tennis player from the US, Serena Williams, to whom she immediately thanked for the nice wishes.

I truly hope that Simona Halep continues to stay in the top of the world best tennis players and manages to give us constantly many reasons of joy that we are Romanians, being happy by her side.

WELL DONE, SIMONA!

Romania and UK, together for peace

london spot

In general, I try not to write about certain themes as I wish to keep my blog out of the crazy world around us. But there are sometimes stories that get into my heart and I just cannot ignore them  🙂 .

Such a story is a recent one about a baker named F. Morariu who is a simple but great example of how I see Romanians- helpful, good-hearted and honest. At a certain point it even gets funny but it is a surprising story about helping people in need around us , about not drowning in this selfish ocean where we all swim and trying to be a good Christian, yes I am not afraid to say it.

There are many articles on the website and here you can find some stories:                        https://reportuk.org/2017/06/05/london-attack-romanian-baker-and-spanish-banker-among-heroes/

I hope these modern heroes will be well protected in the future as their stories have been present in newspapers for everyone to read. I admire them and hope to live as soon as possible the day when I won’t see such things in Europe ever again. I hope to live the day when such criminals will be forever eliminated from our society, when youngsters can enjoy a concert or people like us can have a cappuccino without being afraid they may get killed for nothing. Europe is ours, it is OUR grandparents who died in the world wars and not some oriental citizens, we appreciate our way of life, we respect women &equality and who likes it it’s fine, who doesn’t like it can just go where they came from. I hope the war in Syria will be over sooner, most of the soldiers will come back in their countries so there will be no reason for such things. I hope European countries will wake up and see they live a war that is not theirs and will do something before all of us get killed….for nothing.

To end in a nice way, my congratulations for all these London heroes, thank God the good human spirit is more alive than ever and let’s just pray for peace, for the Europe we had before, for being free to live our culture as we wish wherever in Europe and travel safely everywhere on this planet!

Take care of yourselves wherever you are and always follow the path of the Sun.

p.s. Congrats to amazing Simona Halep 🙂 playing in the Roland Garros tennis tournament, we want to see you play the finals!! Succes Simona!

Simona Halep wins the Madrid tennis tournament

With an amazing force and magic, Simona Halep wins the Madrid tennis competition today! She has had a lot of Romanians supporting her and she has received the price from Nadia Comaneci, the famous Romanian gymnast. After three difficult sets, she has finally managed to defeat strong Cibulkova, who was also in a good shape.

We all love you and thank you for the amazing joy you bring us with every victory!  Good luck with all your future matches in 2017!
